3 Homework −1: Setting Up
Download this assignment — unzip it, open hw-minus-1-setup.qmd in Positron, and answer inside the answer blocks.
What this assignment is
Your setup. There is one exercise and it has nothing to do with statistics: install the software, get a photo of something in your room into the answer block below, and hand it in. The point is to find out now, while nothing is riding on it, that the whole path works—because every assignment after this one runs on the same path, and some of them will ask you to photograph work you did on paper.
Set up once
In Positron, open Extensions in the sidebar, search for tlda Classroom, and choose Install. If you already installed it, choose Update instead.
Open the class app and register. Choose Connect Positron, allow the page to open Positron, then choose Continue to class. You only do this once.
Optional: turn on visual mode
Click the … at the right of the editor toolbar and choose Edit in Visual Mode. ⇧⌘F4 does the same thing, and switches you back.
Visual mode shows the document roughly as it will come out, so you can see the answer blocks you are writing in. The next step works with or without visual mode.
Putting a photo in an answer block
Copy the photo, then right-click—Command-click if you have a Mac—where you want it inside the answer block, and choose Paste.
Positron copies the photo into the same folder as this document, and that copy is what makes it travel with your work when you hand it in. If you would rather do it by hand, put the file in that folder yourself and write  with your photo’s filename.
Exercise
Handing it in
- Preview it. Click Preview and make sure your homework looks like you intended it to.
- Submit. Open View > Command Palette (or press Shift-Command-P on a Mac), type Homework: Submit, and choose it.
